The Challenge

REST APIs with JSON payloads have large sizes and slower serialization. HTTP/2 features (multiplexing, server push) underutilized. Need high-performance inter-service communication. gRPC with Protocol Buffers offers benefits but requires proper patterns: auth, observability, error handling, streaming, testing.
